Why the head of St Vincent College in Gosport was so inspired by a letter from an ex-student

When Andy Grant, Head of St Vincent College in Gosport, opened his mail last week he expected the usual array of circulars and promotional offers. Instead he found something far more inspiring - a letter from former student Isaac Ross.

Isaac studied A-Levels at the college from 2016 to 2018. But it was not his excellent results that Isaac wanted to share with Andy - it was the memories of college and the impact that life as a student had on his future.

Isaac’s letter was so inspiring that Andy chose to make it the focus of his annual welcome address to all of the staff returning to work following the summer break.

Andy said: ‘It is always a pleasure to see our students succeed once they leave college, but Isaac’s letter has allowed our staff to see the impact that good quality education and outstanding levels of support can have in inspiring our students to succeed’.

Since leaving St Vincent College, Isaac has been working full-time, has volunteered with the RAF Cadets and completed the four-day 160km Nijmegen multi-national road march in July.

Isaac will shortly be moving to Canada to continue his education at the University of Alberta before embarking on a career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

‘We are thrilled to see Isaac pursuing his dreams and it was a very proud moment for me to read his wonderful letter to our staff’ said Andy.

St Vincent College recently saw its Vocational Level 3 provision ranked in the top 10% of colleges nationally for student progress and will be hosting an Open Evening on Wednesday 23rd October, where potential students and their families can come in to find out more about the courses and experiences they can offer.
