Youngsters pitch their ideas in '˜dragons' den'

YOUNGSTERS were due to pitch their ideas for community improvement projects at a Dragons' Den-inspired event.

About 300 teenagers are taking part in the National Citizens’ Service, a government-funded programme that helps young people build skills for life in Portsmouth.

The four-week programme is made up of a series of challenges where participants develop trust, responsibility, understanding and empathy for themselves, each other and their communities.

The Dragons’ Den-style pitch comes in week three of an intense programme in which the young people will have learnt about themselves, each other and how they can impact their communities.

The teams have planned a social action project they will undertake as the culmination of their NCS journey.

Today they pitch their ideas at Fratton Park to Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond, Love Southsea founder Lulu Whitmore, The News’ business editor Kimberley Barber and a representative from Tesco in Fratton.

Cash will be awarded to the groups so they can carry out their projects.
