The subject of the call could be anything from registering a carer, so they can make use of our services, to creating a bespoke carer plan and signposting or contacting relevant organisations on behalf of the carer (and lots more in between).

No two calls are the same and it is through the expertise of our Response Line team that we can help literally thousands of carers a month in West Sussex in a professional and caring manner.

A recent example was a caller worried about what would happen when the person they looked after was discharged from hospital. Carers Response Line support worker Lorna said: ‘This carer was particularly concerned about not having the right support in place at home, which is understandablegiven the current situation.

‘From the initial phone call, I was able to help put in place support to ease this carer’s concerns. Now not all carers will need or want this level of support, and that’s okay.

‘Here on the Carers Response Line, we make sure that each carer contact counts and our greatest skill is listening to carers and helping them put things into perspective. Sometimes, all it takes is that one phone call.’

Our Response Line is open six days a week for carers and professionals to obtain information and support. We aim to offer an accessible, relevant and responsive service. All carers are provided with information, guidance and support relevant to their situation.

The line is open 9am-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and until 7pm on Wednesday, plus 10am-12pm on Saturday for those carers whomay be working during normal business hours.

A new online chat service is also available on the Carers Support website, www.carerssupport.org.uk. One of our wellbeing workers will be available to give information along with practical and emotional support, so you feel valued and empowered as a carer.

Just look for the online chat image in the corner of our website’s home page. The service is open throughout May and June, 9am-1pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and from 1pm-5pm on Tuesday.

The benefits are:· For carers who are more comfortable with online communications as opposed to telephone· Good for those with limited time· A quick answer to a simple enquiry· Get that fast response interaction without having to speak on the phone· Great for those who are less confident with speaking on the phone· We can translate the conversation, so good for anyone if English is not their first language.· A useful tool for carers who are deaf or hearing-impaired

If you are a carer who is need of support, or would just like to have a chat, contact our Carer Response Line on 0300 028 8888 or you can e-mail [email protected]. uk and we’ll get back in touch.
