Cash given by Hampshire air ambulance for new blood bike

MONEY has been given to pay for a bike to transport blood.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has donated the fund for the blood bike to be used by Serv-Wessex.

Its volunteer blood bikers operate a regular transportation service from University Hospital Southampton to the air ambulance airbase in Thruxton, changing the blood carried by the service every 48 hours.

The bike, a Yamaha FJR 1300, is one of the first of its kind and is liveried in the distinctive green and yellow branding of the air ambulance and carries the charity logo.

Chief executive Alex Lochrane said: ‘This grant has cemented our relationship with the fabulous blood bikers who give their time to provide an indispensable service.’
