A SPITFIRE flew over the city and Queen Alexandra Hospital yesterday as a gesture of thanks to NHS staff.

The aircraft was hand painted to include the names of thousands of people who helped fight the coronavirus outbreak.

It also had the words ‘Thank U NHS’ emblazoned under its wings.

Crowds on Portsdown Hill and at QA Hospital in Cosham were wowed as the Spitfire performed a special flyby on Saturday afternoon.

Many eager photographers managed to capture spectacular photos of the plane in the skies above our city.
