Firefighter, Jacob Orr, said: ‘I just think it’s important to support all our front-line workers. It’s important they are recognised for the work they do. We have been pretty quiet lately but the NHS and other care workers have been really busy dealing with coronavirus.

‘Everyone at the station wanted to come out and show their appreciation.’

Speaking about the initiative, Queen Alexandra Hospital matron, Bev Vaughan, 58, said: ‘This is such a great demonstration of support for all emergency staff, not just NHS nurses and doctors.’

The initiative was started by Dutch national, Annemarie Plas, who now lives in London. She was inspired after seeing a similar show of appreciation in her homeland.
