The government announced that the three areas would be moving up to the strictest level after a review.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed that Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant will be moving up from tier two from December 19.

The change in tiers will mean that businesses in the leisure and hospitality industry, such as pubs and theatres, will have to shut.

Residents will also have to get used to a number of new rules and restrictions when moving to tier three.

Here’s all you need to know about when the change will happen:

When will the tier three rules start?

Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant will move to tier three on Saturday, December 19.

The rules will come into force at 12.01am.

What about Christmas?

The change in tier for Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant, will not affect the Christmas bubble rules.

This will still come into force on December 23 until December 27.

It means that up to three households can form a Christmas bubble for the days.
