Domestic abuse meeting in Portsmouth to raise awareness

A PANEL event in Portsmouth is set to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence.

In line with Domestic Violence Awareness Month campaigners and experts are holding a virtual meeting, organised by Portsmouth Labour, which is open to all.

Domestic abuse survivor and campaigner Kirsty Mellor will be among those sharing her experiences. She said: ‘Prior to Covid domestic violence and sexual violence, was reaching alarming levels. Covid and lockdown has seen a surge in incidents, now during domestic abuse awareness month, -couldn't be a more important time to bring provisions in our city together.

‘That’s why I’ve organised this online panel discussion and Q&A session to discuss publicly the signs of domestic abuse and sexual violence, what services are available to those who are affected, how this crime affects children and their education and finally how the government can ensure best practice and response to domestic abuse.’

Other speakers include Claire Lambon from Stop Domestic Abuse and MP Stephen Morgan.
