Fareham care home to help with dementia awareness

A NEW care home in Fareham hopes to further increase dementia awareness in the community by holding seminars about dementia for local people.

The Fernes Care Home in Samuel Mortimer Close, which opens in June, is a member of Dementia Friendly Hampshire, a group seeking to make a positive difference to the lives of people living with dementia.

The two seminars are open to everyone from the community interested in learning more about dementia and becoming a Dementia Friend.

The session will be led by Marieke Meijer, homes services advisor at The Fernes Care Home. Marieke is a Dementia Friend and helped 60 people become Dementia Friends in her previous job.

The first two Dementia Friends seminars will take place on Tuesday, April 26 at 12pm until 1.30pm and 6pm until 7.30pm.

The Fernes Care Home is run by Barchester Healthcare and will provide residential care services, as well as dementia care.
