GPs in Portsmouth and other areas to get free book to spot signs of cancer

THOUSANDS of GPs will receive a free book to help them spot signs of head and neck cancer.

The guide, created by the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Royal College of General Practitioners, aims to help doctors spot the different types of cancer.

Professor Peter Brennan, an oral and facial surgeon at Portsmouth Hospitals Trust, helped write the book and said it would save lives but was not for telling GPs what to do.

Oral cancer is the most common type of head and neck cancer and is on the rise.
