Grants to allow more services for the blind

THOUSANDS of pounds has been awarded to set up new services to support the health, wellbeing and independence of blind and partially sighted people across the county.

Open Sight Hampshire, which currently runs a Sight Hub in Fareham, has received £10,000 from grants from The Gerald Micklem Charitable Trust and from The Act Foundation,

The charity now plans to open additional Sight Hubs in Havant and Petersfield offering more people the chance to get impartial advice and assistance with the latest assistive digital technology.

Terry Smith, community development and support manager at Open Sight Hampshire, said: ‘Living with a sight condition can be very isolating and daunting especially for older people. The Hubs are places where people with sight loss can learn to use technology to make the best use of the sight they have, which will make a massive difference to their mental wellbeing.’
