Hampshire team cycle 145 miles to raise awareness of young suicides

A MENTAL health team took part in a cyclathon to raise awareness of suicides in young people.

Staff from Hampshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and other organisations took to two static bikes on Wednesday aiming to pedal 145 miles.

The event, called Cycle 145, in Fareham Shopping Centre relates to figures that state 145 young people take their lives each year in the UK.

The team managed to beat its original target, pedalling 200 miles over the course of the day between them.

It was part of a year-long campaign called Suicide Awareness for Everyone which charities and trusts across the country are getting involved in.

Helen Dove, Sussex Partnership’s innovation and participation lead in Hampshire said: ‘I was pleased to see so many young people and families talking to clinicians about how to keep themselves well and what to do to manage if and when they are finding things tough.’
