Havant nursing home placed in special measures

The Care Quality Commission carried out the unannounced inspection at Cross Way House in Havant on May 5 and 6. The CQC found it to be inadequate in areas of safety and how well it was managed.

A report released by the CQC said inspectors witnessed some situations where people were not safe and staff also told them about previous incidents where people and staff had not been safe.

Staffing numbers were insufficient to meet the needs of the residents and records were not kept up-to-date.

The residential home, run by Brookvale Healthcare, provides accommodation and personal care for people with dementia and learning disabilities.

At the time of the inspection, there were 13 people living there with a learning disability and nine older people living with dementia.

The CQC is the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England.
