Marcus, who is from Gosport and grew up in Wickham, gave his support to The Rowans, which offers specialist palliative care to those with life-limiting illnesses, following a visit to centre last year when he was starring in the Kings Theatre pantomime.

Teresa Jeffery, fundraiser from the hospice, said: ‘We are delighted to have the support of Marcus at our flagship event, which really is promising to be a night to remember.

‘We will also have a photo booth in the registration tent so people can record the occasion. All walkers will receive a commemorative medal at the finish to celebrate their achievement.’

Paul Hepple was the 1,000th walker to sign up. Paul, 55, is walking in memory of his mum and dad alongside his two brothers, three sisters, daughters and granddaughters.

Paul said: ‘My mum was looked after at Rowans Hospice in 2002 and I lost my dad to leukaemia last November, so the Hepple clan is walking for mum and dad.’
