The toddler walked around Canoe Lake in Southsea three times, surrounded by family and friends.

Brinley, who is 18 months old, took on the walk and he and his parents have thanked all those who have helped him raise more than £700.

The money will be given to Teresa McGee, who was diagnosed with cancer last November.

She has since been told it is terminal and Brinley’s mum Lacey wanted to give her money to spend on whatever she wants.

Lacey, from Leigh Park, said: ‘I’m so proud of Brinley. I don’t think any of us realised how big Canoe Lake was, but he managed to do it.

‘He loved it and ran to the finish line which was really cute.

‘It was lovely to have people with us and doing it too.

‘There was a great atmosphere and we were really happy with how it went.

‘It looked a little touch and go because it had been raining the day before and in the morning, but we did it.’

Mum-of-two Lacey, 26, added: ‘Teresa has been there for me my whole life and she’s a big part of Brinley’s life.

‘Her family set up a fundraising page and we wanted to do our bit – that’s where I came up with the idea of the walk.

‘I only expected to raise £100, so to raise around £750 was incredible. We are so grateful to everyone who donated to Brinley.’

Teresa, also from Leigh Park, has cancer in her bowel, both lungs and lymph nodes. Doctors can only offer her chemotherapy.

The 56-year-old has a few things she wants to do and Lacey hopes the money will help her achieve it.

‘All the money is going to Teresa to spend on whatever she wants,’ she said.

Teresa was not able to make it to the walk, held earlier this month, but her family went to cheer on Brinley.

Her daughter, Michelle, said: ‘We want to say thank you so much for what Brinley has done for my mum. He’s a little hero.’
