Lucky midwife wins special products to help with job

More than 1,000 professional and student midwives attended the conference, where a joint competition was run by Sutherland Health Plc and breastfeeding experts Lansinoh.

It gave midwives a chance to win a Biston Point of Care midwifery bag and a full range of Lansinoh breastfeeding products.

Specialist teenage pregnancy community midwife Sharon Buttriss, was the lucky winner of the products which will greatly benefit her work in the community.

The products up for grabs included a Lansinoh manual breast pump, latch assist, HPA lanolin nipple cream, breastmilk, storage bags, nursing pads and TheraPeal hot or cold breast therapy.

The prize was presented to Sharon and her manger Debbie Hill, clinical lead for public health, at Gosport War Memorial Hospital’s Blake Maternity Centre.

The Biston Point of Care Bag is designed to evenly spread the weight of heavy medical equipment helping to reduce the risk of injury for midwives.

Sharon said: ‘I am able to store everything I need in one handy bag which is easy to carry instead of carrying three bulky bags, which is not good for my back.

‘I have been using my bag for the last three weeks and it is fabulous!’

The prize will help ensure the vital work that community midwives perform on a daily basis is carried out safely and efficiently.
