It comes as disputes over proposed new contracts for junior doctors continue. The latest strike lasted for two days.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has thanked NHS staff for their planning, hard work and clear dedication to their patients following the walk out.

He said: ‘I would like to pay tribute to all of the staff who have once again pulled out all the stops to keep services running effectively during industrial action.’
