Maternity ward in Portsmouth to get £27,000 boost

THOUSANDS of pounds has been given to a health trust to make having a baby safer.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £27,000 as part of a drive to make the NHS one of the safest places in the world to have a baby.

The cash will be spent on maternal and foetal monitoring equipment.

It will also be spent on simulation equipment for multi-disciplinary training in the care of the mother and baby in obstetric emergencies.

Gill Walton, director of midwifery at the trust, said: ‘This will make a huge difference in terms of the care we can offer women.

‘Any additional equipment helps to make care safer and we are delighted to receive this additional funding.’

The grant is part of a fund of more than £2m which the Department of Health has awarded to trusts.
