Month-long jogging appeal for ill children was a runaway success

Adam Bignell was on a month-long fundraising quest to bring a smile to ill children’s faces at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

The proud dad spent the whole of October running, notching up an impressive 107 miles.

Every step of the way he was sponsored by friends and family, raising almost £400 in the process.

This cash has now been spent on games for poorly youngsters at QA just in time for Christmas, with a discount from retailer The Range allowing for more treats to be bought.

Adam, who is a manager at A1 Powder Coatings, said he and his family buy toys for the children’s ward at QA every few months.

He said: ‘There are lots of charitable organisations out there but I wanted to do something slightly different.

‘Last month I did a sponsored run. My target was to raise £100 by running 100 miles through October. I set up a just giving page and off I went. By the end of the month I had run 107 miles including a PB at the Great South Run of 1hr 12mins.’

He added: ‘My aim was to bring a smile to the faces of these children in the wards and knowing that we were able to get this many toys was amazing and made it all worthwhile.

‘I’m hoping to do something again next year as these things get overlooked sometimes. The nurses do a fantastic job and if this helps I’m always going to keep clocking up the miles to help them and the children.’
