NHS plans to go ahead despite loss of funding

A Sustainability and Transformation Plan was drawn up proposing £577m of cuts to the NHS in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The plan also proposed investments but relied on government funds.

As reported, Portsmouth NHS Hospital Trust lost out on £7.6m after missing its targets.

An STP spokeswoman said: ‘The NHS trusts in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight were asked to meet a variety of targets in order to obtain further funding from the sustainability and transformation fund.

‘Performance against these targets varied across the area with some trusts performing better than expected and thus receiving increased funding.

‘As a result, when looking at Hampshire and the Isle and Wight as a whole, we obtained around the same amount of funding as expected. As such, Even in light of the reduction for Portsmouth Hospitals, we have been able to continue with all planned programmes.’
