A MEETING was held to discuss treatments for cystic fibrosis becoming available on the NHS.

Representatives from pharmaceutical company Vertex, which manufactures drug Orkambi, met with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) last week.

Parents, led by Portsmouth mums Gemma Weir and Michelle Frank, have been campaigning for Nice to recommend Orkambi which is a life-changing drug for people with cystic fibrosis.

They travelled to London to hand in a petition signed by 114,000 people.

Numerous talks have been held between Vertex, Nice and NHS England including the most recent on October 4.

A Nice spokesman said: '˜Vertex and Nice held a productive meeting and have committed to continuing their discussions over the appraisal of treatments for cystic fibrosis.'
