THE care by staff at a home has been called outstanding following an inspection.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Maritime House, in North End, Portsmouth, and rated the caring aspect of the site as outstanding – the highest it can give.
Overall, the home was rated good.
The inspector found staff went the extra mile holding events like tea parties to bring the residents together, organising for support workers to accompany them on holiday and encouraging residents to pursue interests like swimming.
The report said: ‘The service is exceptional at helping people to express their views so that staff and managers at all levels understand their views, preferences, wishes and choices.
‘The initiatives and work undertaken by staff and management were unusual for an extra care housing scheme and their efforts had really begun to deliver positive changes to people's lives.
‘There was a kind and caring culture where people and staff were at the forefront of the service.’
