Parents praise nursing teams who cared for Crookhorn teenager who died of cancer

That is the message from the parents of 14-year-old Katie Scannell who died of a brain tumour in January.

Her family was given support by the Community Children’s Nursing Team in Portsmouth, run by Solent NHS Trust, and children’s hospice Chestnut Tree House, in Arundel.

Jason, Katie’s dad, said: ‘The community nurses were incredible for us and do not get enough praise for what they do.

‘It was the same with the team at Queen Alexandra Hospital both in the Starfish Ward and critical care.

‘We want to say a massive thank you to them for the support they gave us.

‘They were amazing and spoke so highly of Katie.

‘You never know about their work until you are involved and they are incredible.’

As a thank you to the teams, Jason and Katie’s mum Michelle will be raising money for the community nurses and Chestnut Tree House.
