The glamorous ceremony took place at the Leicester Athena last week and staff from Horizon-run gym put on their glad rags for the occasion.

Although they did not win, staff were extremely proud to be shortlisted, having won The News’ own Gym of the Year competition last year.

Howard Broad, Horizon’s chief executive, said: ‘For a leisure provider operating from Havant and Waterlooville, it’s a great achievement to be shortlisted in this national fitness awards competition for the third year running.

‘The team at Horizon have worked tirelessly to deliver a fantastic gym at Havant Leisure Centre which has been much appreciated by our members.

‘As a charity we are proud of the high standard of facility we have provided to the local community’.

The gym underwent a huge redevelopment in 2014.

It has a two-lane running track and more than 160 work stations, including boxing frames.

There is a large free weights area and it is one of the largest gyms in the area.

The awards were organised by leading fitness industry magazine Workout, with support from headline sponsor Service Sport.

In each category up to seven finalists were selected and put through a judging process where they had to impress by showcasing first-hand the great work going on in their clubs.

National Fitness Awards’ director Judith Halkerston said: ‘The quality and quantity of National Fitness Awards’ entries just keep improving year on year and everyone who has been shortlisted this year should be really proud of their achievement so far as competition was so strong.’
