The second Nursing and Midwifery Awards. was held at Portsmouth Marriott Hotel on Friday to recognise staff across Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust with 148 nominations across 10 categories.
Award categories ranged from the Chief Nurse Award and Clinical Specialist to awards for Working as One Team, Working Together with Compassion and Working Together for Patients – reflecting the Trust’s values.
Among them was Midwife Layla Toomer, who took home the Working Together for Patients Award.
Layla said: ‘To me it is just my job that I do every day, so to be recognised for that is amazing as I love my job.
‘The most important part about my job is looking after our patients and putting them first.’
The awards were held by former patient Paul Thomas as his way of saying thank you to teams and individuals who cared for him at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
Mr Thomas was overwhelmed by the compassion QA’s nursing teams showed him during his stay.
Mark Cubbon, chief executive of Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: ‘The Nursing and Midwifery Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate all that is great about our dedicated nurses, midwives and health care support workers here in Portsmouth.
‘I am immensely proud of all of our nursing and midwifery staff and healthcare support workers and would like to congratulate everyone on their wonderful achievement in being shortlisted.
‘I would also like to thank Paul Thomas for his generosity in holding the awards as his way of saying thank you.’
