Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust rated '˜good' in inaugural '˜Learning from Mistakes League'

THE trust that runs Queen Alexandra Hospital has been ranked '˜good' in the inaugural Learning From Mistakes League, published by the Department of Health.

The table draws on a range of data to identify the level of openness and transparency in NHS organisations.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust was ranked 64th out of 230 trusts, putting it in the top 28 per cent in the UK.

The table shows 120 groups were rated as outstanding or good, while 78 had significant concerns and 32 had a poor reporting culture.

Staff surveys were used to compile the table. Employees at PHT rated ‘fairness and effectiveness of procedures for reporting errors, near misses and incidents’ very highly.

Likewise, they said they felt confidence in reporting unsafe clinical practice.

Ursula Ward, chief executive of PHT, said: ‘As a trust we encourage our staff to report all issues so that valuable lessons can be learnt. I am very proud of our open and transparent culture and it is heartening to see that this national report reflects this.’
