QA Hospital named the best for hip fracture care
Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham was rated highest in the country’s hospitals for the number of patients receiving ‘Best Practice Tariff’ by the National Hip Fracture Database.
Hip fractures are one of the most common serious injuries for elderly patients, mostly resulting from falls with those admitted often very frail.

Hide AdLast year, the hospital treated 749 patients with a hip fracture and was also rated highest for the percentage of patients discharged, with 82.2 per cent being in their own home within 120 days, compared to 67.4 per cent nationally.
Dr Sue Poulton, consultant orthogeriatrician at the hospital, said: ‘These excellent results are a reflection of the strong commitment of the whole multidisciplinary team to providing the highest quality care to this vulnerable group of patients.’
