Residents give cancer a kick in three-hour Body Combat Marathon

People of all fitness levels attended a three-hour Body Combat Marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK, at Havant Leisure Centre.

The event is in its sixth year running and so far organiser Sarah Styles has raised more than £30,000, as those taking part pay a donation fee of £15.

The 40-year-old mum-of-one, from Farlington, said: ‘My stepdad died of cancer in 2013, he’s the reason I started fundraising.

‘So far this year people have donated about £2,500, but I’ve still got to count the money from the donation buckets and the extra sponsorship money that comes through. I’ll have the grand total in a couple of weeks’ time.

‘This is a great way to raise money because people who take part come away having done an amazing workout, as well as supporting a good cause.

‘Most people are affected by cancer in some way, so the generosity of the public just keep coming, they give so much. Those taking part can also be sponsored by their friends and family.

‘Havant Leisure Centre give us the hall for free and I’m extremely grateful for that, I’d also like to thank my helpers and instructors.’

‘Next year I’d love to do a rave or something like that.’
