The facility at Mays Lane, Stubbington, which is run by Care Management Group Limited, was graded ‘requires improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission.

The home provides support and accommodation for up to five people who live with a learning disability or autistic spectrum disorder.

In the report, inspectors said: ‘Risks associated with people’s care had been identified, but these had not always been updated or new ones created as people’s needs and risks changed.

‘Medicines were checked on a regular basis, but some errors were still occurring.

‘Staffing levels were variable with bank and agency staff being used while permanent staff were being recruited and working through an induction period.

‘A training programme was available but staff had not renewed their training before it expired and new staff had not always accessed training before working in areas where they would have needed to undertake the training.’

The report also said that the service provided is not always caring and although staff demonstrated a good understanding of people’s needs and knew them well, it could have been better.

But the inspectors added: ‘People had developed good relationships with staff who were kind and caring in their approach.

‘They were treated with dignity and respect.’

The inspection team recommended actions staff need to take to improve the service.

A spokeswoman for 32 Mays Lane said: ‘The health and wellbeing of every individual we support is always our priority.

‘When inspectors visited at the beginning of the year they found that “people were treated with dignity and respect” by “kind and caring” staff, but they also noted some areas for improvement.

‘Since January we have developed and implemented a thorough action plan to satisfy the issues identified and we look forward to welcoming the CQC back to the service, to demonstrate the improvements that have been made.’
