24 photos remembering the International Festival of the Sea 2005 in Portsmouth

In 2005 Portsmouth hosted a festival giving people the chance to get up close to some of the navy’s most important vessels.

The International Festival of the Sea was held at Portsmouth Naval Base between June 30 and July 3, and was the fifth in a series of similar festivals held in the UK since 1996.

Royal Navy enthusiasts could walk around the naval base and go onboard visiting vessels, including many belonging to the navy.

As part of the festival people could also see parts of the Type 45 destroyers, HMS Dauntless and HMS Daring, being constructed on site.

Here is a selection of photos from the event – did you go along to the festival?
