The centre of Portsmouth simply doesn’t have the same vibrant market atmosphere on Fridays and Saturdays any more.

In its heyday it attracted thousands over the two days. It was largely a fruit and veg market but like all good ones you could buy virtually anything – from a dustpan and brush to a pair of sports socks and a nylon sheet.
