One of the joys of this job is never knowing what’s going to land on my desk or turn up next in my inbox.

One such package arrived recently containing a collection of many old postcards from around the area into which I shall dip into in the coming days.

Hats off and thanks to Raymond Wareham, 71, of Redhouse Park Gardens, Gosport, for lending me the stack of cards – many of which are new to Remember When.

Raymond himself stars in the photograph here.

He’s the little lad in arms on the far right amid the VE celebrations going on in Chantry Road, Gosport, in the May or June of 1945.

Raymond says he picked up his collection of postcards for a song between 30 and 40 years ago.

I particularly like this one of the old Red Lion at Stubbington.
