THE black and white picture on the right, of Kingston Road, Portsmouth, in 1938, prompted Ray Lovett, to send in this other photograph of the same area taken last year.

It too was taken from the tower of St Mary’s Church, and Ray, of Walden Road, Stamshaw, Portsmouth, thought the comparison was interesting.

Ray said: ‘Apart from the increase in traffic, the trees (left of centre) also show the re-routed Lake Road. ‘What a fascinating community this was in 1938.’
