Not some far flung island but Port Creek alongside Eastern Road, Portsmouth, earlier this week. I counted more than 50 plastic bottles along with other man-made filth.

Since this photo was taken in the 1920s the dockyard has seen many alterations.

One thing that never changes though are the farewells and welcome-homes whenever ships depart or arrive. Here we see families and friends of a ship’s company waving goodbye from Pitch House Jetty.
