James Taylor was born and bred in Gosport.

He is now 90 and is pretty sure this picture of Portsmouth from Ferry Gardens, Gosport, was taken about 1934 because No4 Boathouse in the Dockyard does not feature across the water.

Instead there are about 10 small boat sheds where it was later built. He remembers construction starting in 1935.

James says the brick building in the foreground was a Camper and Nicholson store which was destroyed in a Second World War bombing raid.
