I think this photograph from Mick Haven shows the Royal Marines and Bluejackets band leading a march past of the ship’s company from the aircraft carrier HMS Implacable.

The city is Sydney, Australia in 1945, or perhaps early 1946, and I’m sure this is when the Implacable returned with former PoWs. You can see the road is crowded with onlookers and civic dignitaries are taking the salute to the left.

I wonder if there were any local men in the ranks far away from home?
