The streetscape immediately below came as a surprise to me when my colleague Bob Hind used it on his Remember When pages on Saturday.
It seems like only yesterday that the northern end of Commercial Road, Portsmouth, looked like this.
It serves as a reminder that the city continuously evolves – blink and you will miss the changes.
Reader David Willcox took the picture in 1983.
It is a memory-jogger not only of the ABC cinema, but also of the old Country House Tavern on the right, for his parents ran it from 1939 until 1967.
David also took the second photograph – this time, he thinks, about 1990.
The angle has foreshortened the perspective, but it shows the cinema and the pub in the throes of demolition with Commercial Road running between them.
