Last week I wrote about the Aberfan disaster of October 21, 1966. The Merthyr Vale Colliery overlooked the village and, believe it or not, coal from the mine actually fuelled the Hayling Billy – the steam train that ran from Havant to Hayling Island. And to prove it, here’s a consignment note loaned to me by Havant historian Ralph Cousins.
