On July 15 I published a photo of the Ted Heath Band playing at the Savoy on Southsea seafront.
What were the chances that anyone in the shot would recognise themselves today?
But I received a letter from George W Jeffery who tells me the photo was taken in the mid-1950s and the young man to the right of Ted Heath sporting the white hankie in his breast pocket is none other than himself.
George tells me those evenings were called Radio Band Nights and he and his wife attended as often as possible.
‘Suits and ties were the done thing in those days,’ adds George.
By George, he’s right. Dress up rather than down, unlike so many today.
