Maureen Taylor would like to enlist readers’ help in identifying, positively, these ships and the sailors busily sewing or making clothes on board ship.

They were in the collection of her late grandfather Lt Herbert Errington, who served in the Royal Navy in Portsmouth from about 1903-1909.

Can you recognise this unknown ship of the fleet?

Maureen, of St Margaret’s Road, Hayling Island, said: ‘I think he was a radio operator and also the photographer.

‘He mentions HMS London, HMS Illustrious and HMS Irresistible. One photo is marked as an ‘unknown ship of the fleet’, another is of men making clothes with Singer sewing machines.’

She says Herbert died when he was 45, but she would love to know from readers more about these ships and perhaps the sewing sailors.
