These two wartime photographs are a bit of a mystery and I need your help.

They show Royal Engineers marching and parading at a railway station. But which one?

The parade has come to a halt to be addressed by Sir Denis Daley. Does the platform roof indicate where it might be?

The original captions say the soldiers were on a visit to Portsmouth, but the station and its surroundings do not look like any station in the city.

Perhaps they were leaving somewhere else en route to Portsmouth?

The Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Sir Denis Daley, is taking the salute and he later addressed the men.
