Have your say

How often do you think these Portsmouth milkmen must have told their customers they were ‘streets ahead’ of the competition?

The year is 1932 and this delightful period picture shows the dairy staff outside Street’s.

The photo was sent to me by Jeff Allen who has more than a passing interest in it – his grandfather AE (Bert) Allen is on the right hand end of the front row.

Jeff says: ‘The dairy building in the photo is still around and very recognisable – 1 Baffins Road.

‘It is now the Kingsley Garage at the Milton Road/Baffins Road junction outside the prison.’

A couple of weeks ago Neil Stewart sent me a picture of him posing beside a Spitfire with a couple of school friends.

They were on a school trip from either Court Lane Junior School, Cosham, or Manor Court Secondary School, Drayton. But Neil could not remember where the Spitfire was.

Step forward Derek Petrie, of Malvern Avenue, Fareham, who sent me his picture of the same aircraft – outside Beaulieu Motor Museum.

He took it about 1958 on a Brownie 127 and managed to take the image here from the negative.

Thanks also to Alan Edney, from Hayling Island, who came to the same conclusion and remembered seeing it at Beaulieu when he was a lad.
