Nearly every old drawing or photograph of King James’s Gate, which was in Broad Street, Old Portsmouth, is taken from the north side.

Here we see a picture, made from a woodcut of the gate, from the south looking down to Point.

It was sent in by Ted Saunders, from Portchester, who saw it in a book called The Story of Portsmouth, published by Charpentier & Co of 46, High Street, Old Portsmouth.
