NOSTALGIA: Breakdown or accident on Portsdown Hill?

Have your say

Last week’s photograph of the ASWE football team attracted the attention of Ray Rowswell of Denmead who used to play for Cosham and also played at Fratton Park in a cup final.

It was for the Oscar Owers Memorial Trophy and his team lost 3-1 to Crusaders. Mike scored the Cosham goal.

The photo was taken some 10 years after the ASWE photograph and just look at the difference in kit. Lightweight boots and shin pads (those that are wearing them) and the team number placed on the shorts. Very Leeds United.

The photo was taken at King George V playing fields, Cosham, and the photographer has framed the team in the goalmouth with Fort Widley as a backdrop.

Mike cannot remember all the names but some are goalkeeper Nigel Valette with the manager far right whose Christian name was Harry. In the front row from the left is Mike Young, Ray Rowswell and the secretary Pete Sexton second from the right.

If you are in the picture please let me know.
