Spurred by recent Remember When pictures of the football and cricket teams from Flying Bull Lane School, Portsmouth, Brian Wareham dug out this picture.

It’s from October 1955 during a visit by Soviet warships to the city and shows Russian sailors with Portsmouth children.

Brian says: ‘Children from each of the schools in Portsmouth were invited to attend. I was fortunate with three other children to represent Flying Bull Lane School. The photograph shows us being entertained by the Russian sailors with singing and dancing.

‘The boxes we are holding were a gift of Russian sweets.’

Brian is the lad wearing jacket and tie directly behind the girl in the centre of the photograph wearing the Russian hat.
