Have your say

In these ‘then and now’ pictures we see a trolley bus turning right out of Bradford Road into Victoria Road North, Southsea.

To the left would have been the old Plaza cinema, now the Jami mosque.

Behind the bus are houses in Northumberland Avenue. Rugby Road is on the right, just out of shot.

Below it is, believe it or not, the same spot today. Bradford Road is now a dead-end where Winston Churchill Avenue cut off its junction with Blackfriars Road. The Volvo replaces the bus. Northumberland Avenue has long been demolished and replaced by a roundabout.

Rugby Road has since been blocked off as well. It’s amazing that tramlines, last used in 1934, are still in place in that road.
