Former Ultra employees Geoff O’Neill and Mick Laming are compiling a book of people’s memories of the technology company and need help from their fellow workers.

Ultra opened a new factory at Gosport for the production of televisions and radios in 1956 and was at one time Gosport’s largest employer.

It seems to me as if ULTRA was the place to work as they had a canteen, staff discount and put on a variety show and transport for employees.

The book, an illustrated paperback, is out in time for Christmas and will be produced by Gosport publisher Chaplin Books.

It will be packed with memories, stories and anecdotes from people who worked at the plant over the years.

So no matter how long or short a time you worked there, Geoff and Mick would like to hear your stories, good or bad.

Everyone’s contribution will appear in the book with their name. The deadline for contributions is August 31.

E-mail your memories to or post them to Ultra Book, Chaplin Books, 1 Eliza Place, Gosport PO12 4UN.
