Yesterday I featured Sue Jarrett’s picture of The Beatles, signed by them when they played the Guildhall, Portsmouth, in December 1963.

But the gig should have happened the previous month, except Paul McCartney went down with a throat infection once the band had arrived in the city.

On the right is a ticket for the original concert. The other picture is captioned: ‘John Lennon, with a worried expression, shielding the sick Paul McCartney as they left Portsmouth Guildhall after the Beatles’ show was cancelled.’

n The Guildhall is 125 years old this month and if you’ve got a memory of the building to share, please e-mail
