The picture earlier this month of what was then known as Hilsea Lagoon Gardens brought back many happy memories for Janet Dedman (nee White).
Of course, today it is Hilsea Lido, but the picture was taken in the early 1930s before the pool was built.
Janet, of Hilsea Crescent, Hilsea, Portsmouth, whose father was the Scoutmaster at St Francis’s Church, Hilsea, said: ‘As children we had the run of the moat, the rose gardens, the tennis courts and all the boats.
‘But the event I remember with great affection was being allowed up later on the nights that our parents danced in the tennis courts shown in the picture.
‘There were fairy lights all around the top and I am sure it was to the music of an accordion.’
