Irene Harman was touched to see the recent picture of The Nelson Tavern, Unicorn Road, Landport, Portsmouth.

Her father, Ernest Diment, was the manager of the pub from 1945 until his death in 1962.

Irene, of Sydney Road, Gosport, says her dad was always known as ‘Big Ern’.

She adds: ‘My father was in the Royal Navy and served in both world wars. He had many naval friends who visited him. I lived in the pub until my marriage in 1960.’
